ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Keely-Shaye Boon
The Communication Club was founded by Keely-Shaye Boon, a paediatric speech-language therapist deeply passionate about understanding and celebrating the rich diversity of the way children communicate.

Keely-Shaye’s clinical journey began at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she qualified as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Early in her career, she worked in the public sector, as the sole speech therapist between Alexandra Clinic and Zola Clinic, followed by work in the private sector, gaining invaluable experience across a wide range of communication needs.
However, it was her work with neurodivergent children - those whose communication, sensory, and motor profiles fall beautifully outside the “typical” box - that truly shaped her purpose.

Driven by her fascination with the complex interplay between executive functioning, speech-motor coordination, and language development, Keely-Shaye founded The Communication Club as a space where every child’s communication profile is understood, respected, and supported through a relationship-centred practice.

Her approach reflects her firm belief that communication growth begins with connection - with understanding how a child’s body, brain, and environment interact. Through her specialised training in motor-based and sensory-informed frameworks, she crafts therapy that meets each child where they are, building pathways toward confident, meaningful communication.

Equally passionate about caregiver empowerment, Keely-Shaye works closely with parents through coaching and education, helping families understand the “why” behind communication differences. Her goal is to equip parents with the tools, insight, and confidence to support their child’s journey long after therapy sessions end.

At its heart, The Communication Club exists to celebrate neurodivergent communication - creating a space where children and families feel seen, understood, and empowered to connect in their own authentic way.
OUR APPROACH
We uphold an environment of neurodiversity-affirming practice
At The Communication Club, our approach is grounded in connection, curiosity, and respect for every child’s unique way of communicating. We believe that communication flourishes when a child feels understood, regulated, and safe—and that meaningful progress begins with genuine relationship.

Our therapy goes beyond traditional speech-language intervention. We look at the whole child—how they move, feel, process, and connect with the world around them. By weaving together sensory-informed, motor-based, and relationship-centred frameworks, we create therapy experiences that feel playful, supportive, and deeply responsive to each child’s needs.

We honour all forms of communication—spoken words, gestures, AAC, or shared moments of connection—as equally valuable expressions. Our neurodiversity-affirming practice celebrates difference, helping children build confidence in their own communication style rather than moulding them to fit a “typical” pattern.

Just as importantly, we see parents and caregivers as partners. Through coaching, collaboration, and education, we empower families to understand their child’s communication profile and carry connection-building strategies into everyday life.

Our goal is simple: to help children and families experience communication as something joyful, connected, and truly their own.
